Vancouver police warn of one-punch attacks
“Quite a number of extra officers, and one of their goals is to identify problem individuals early in the night so they don’t cause problems later on, but it is up to the individual themselves to really think twice before they do something they might regret”.
The man was sucker punched as the pair walked past two groups of men who were arguing about a limousine in front of a bar in Vancouver’s entertainment district.
Part of the victim’s brain tissue was later removed; the cops say he will suffer from lifelong injuries.
On Friday, police said the victim initially thought he had suffered only a minor head injury when a punch knocked him to the ground. They’ve resulted in serious injuries, comas and death.
Montague said Crown counsel has not yet approved a charge of aggravated assault and police are seeking more witnesses.
In one case, a homicide charge has been laid.
He remains in hospital with severe injuries and brain damage.
Police did arrest a 23-year-old man in his Coquitlam home on November 18 for the assault.
Police are investigating and are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident, including a woman who may have a prosthetic leg, and the drivers of the two limousines.

“There’s so much evidence that you’re not going to get away with it. We will find you”.
“A lot of these (suspects) are regular people with regular jobs, who do stupid things when they put alcohol in their bodies, and they ruin their lives, and they ruin the lives of victims and their families”, Montague said.
Many are calling for an increase in policing on the Granville Strip after yesterday’s warning regarding an increase in “sucker punch” attacks around the downtown core.
“Anywhere we have bars is where we’re seeing them”, he told reporters.
“It’s other young men who have generally had a little bit too much to drink and little bit too much bravado, who aren’t thinking clearly and don’t realize that their actions have serious consequences”.
“Our plea is to those making the conscious decision to make their hand into a fist and take a swing”.
