Van Gaal Worried By “Nasty” Vardy, Happy With United Results
The Foxes have done so with an abundance of goals and a fearless attitude – making them one of the best watches to date.
What is far more likely is a 1v1 encounter between Vardy and Smalling and that is exactly the tactic Van Gaal must employ to keep the Premier League’s leading scorer quiet.
Van Gaal described Vardy as a “nasty” and “great” player who he also likened to former Arsenal and Ajax great Dennis Bergkamp.
“He scores, he provoked a penalty, now scoring 10 goals in a row, he is a great player”.
“I know there are players out there in a similar position to where I was that just need an opportunity”, he said. “It’s not so easy to do that”.
When asked if Vardy was a potential January transfer target, Van Gaal added: “That’s none of your business”.
Van Gaal’s perceived style of play, lacking tempo and a creative edge, has come in for criticism from supporters and pundits.
Leicester have been the antithesis of United in many ways.
“I cannot say every game in the interview with you that we didn’t finish but it is the truth”.
“Slowly, slowly they are getting better, building, he’ll get it right”.
PSV were particularly impressive towards the end of the game, with Cocu suggesting his own tactical intervention after United introduced Marouane Fellaini proved decisive.
He said: “Of course, because the fans have to be happy”.
Their last outing ended in a 0-0 draw against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League that left their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages hanging in the balance.
“You see players where the ball could have been played forward with a little bit of risk but they tend to go square or back”.
“I think his impact for us was wonderful”.
“We believe there are many more Jamie Vardys out there”. United are without long-term absentees Luke Shaw (leg) and Antonio Valencia (foot), while they will check on the progress of Michael Carrick (foot), Ander Herrera (hamstring), Phil Jones (ankle) and James Wilson (knee) ahead of the game. Vardy will be looking to break the record when United travel to King Power Stadium to face Leicester. The inclusion of the young Lingard, who has graduated from the club’s youth system has helped get over this problem to some extent.
After recording another convincing win against Newcastle in their last fixture, they will head into this fixture confident of scoring. “We had quite a lot of injuries from important players but we have to live with that”, Toure said.
With the campaign now in full swing with over a third now played, what have been the most shocking results which has led to the creation of this topsy-turvy table?
