Ryan wants more passes thrown to Watkins
Buffalo’s Jerry Hughes applies one of the many hits that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady took Monday night.
New England is No. 2 in relative scoring defense, holding its opponents this year 5.2 points per game below the average scored against other teams.
Taylor said he would never play for personal gain if he felt his condition would limit his play and hurt the team. They test you with different blitz looks and so forth.
Points came at a premium, with both teams boasting stout defenses, and the game went into halftime with the Patriots leading 10-3. While the Bills have better offensive weapons this season, there’s still a decent drop-off between Watkins and his fellow receivers.
Mathis was absent from practice, nursing an ankle injury he sustained in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Bears.
“We were down to two healthy receivers”, Brady said. “You’ve got to figure out, when things aren’t going well, how to rally”.
Of the seven players who caught passes from Brady on opening night, four were injured by the end of Week 11. “I think we can play better, and I think some of the things that we didn’t do well have nothing to do with missing some other guys”.
Their prized tight end, Charles Clay had just three targets and one grab. Although he was once considered injury-prone – he was knocked out with season ending injuries in back-to-back seasons in 2012-13 – Gronkowski has been a steady presence in the lineup this year. During an interview with “Schopp and The Bulldog” on WGR 550, Ryan called Watkins “too good of a playmaker not to get more looks” and said that the receiver’s ability was good enough that the Bills should be trying to get him the ball even if it’s not an ideal situation to send the ball in his direction.
“What I am impressed with most is how Bill evaluates and utilizes talent”, said Fox analyst Jimmy Johnson, whose personnel acumen as head coach was critical in guiding the 1992-93 Cowboys to consecutive championships.
Tom Brady had a rough-and-tumble kind of night on Monday when the Bills visited the Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
“Five more touchdown passes for the ever-improving Cam Newton, and more proof the Panthers are worthy of Super Bowl discussion”, Newsday’s Bob Glauber said.
According to STATS, Brady was pressured on 45 percent of his dropbacks.
Coach Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels are going to have to be very creative, to keep the New England powerhouse ideal.
The Chiefs are aiming for a fifth consecutive victory since falling to 1-5 and losing star running back Jamaal Charles to a season-ending knee injury.
Watkins said earlier in the season that he thought he should have the ball thrown his way 10 times a game, but he didn’t repeat that thought this week. “When that occurs and we deem that the runner, which he would have been after he maintained possession after his reception, he was now a runner, had given himself up in the field of play”.
