Bender (6-foot, 187 lbs.) will receive his first career start when the Cougars take on Washington today at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Even though coach Mike Leach has refused to name his starting quarterback for today’s game, most likely it’ll be freshman Peyton Bender over sophomore Luke Falk, who was carted off the field last week after suffering a concussion.
Be Civil – It’s OK to have a difference in opinion but there’s no need to be a jerk.
Bender was 13 of 22 for 133 yards and one touchdown in relief of Falk.
But with Falk sidelined by a head injury, the Washington Huskies held their cross-state rivals without a touchdown for almost three quarters in a surprisingly dominant 45-10 victory before a crowd of 70,348 at Husky Stadium. Another true freshman, Chico McClatcher, scored UW’s first touchdown on a 26-yard reverse midway through the first quarter, giving the Huskies a 7-3 lead. Dom Williams dropped a potential touchdown on a screen pass on third down and the Cougars settled for a field goal on its opening possession. As for Washington, the Huskies are 5-6 straight up and 6-5 against the spread. For the season, Bender is 17-of-33 for 210 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Gaskin was also a big reason why the Huskies pulled away.
