Chicago police arrest suspect in fatal, gang-related Chicago shooting of 9
The shooting was “targeted and calculated” and it was connected to Lee’s father, who has done nothing to help police in this matter from the start of the investigation.
“That gang just signed its own death warrant”, McCarthy said.
Morgan is being held without bond on a first-degree murder charge.
However McCarthy insists the shooting was indeed gang related. Morgan was so enraged he threatened to shoot “grandmas, mamas, kids and all” in retaliation.
Tyshawn’s November 2 death stemmed from a gang rivalry between the Killa Ward faction of the Gangster Disciples and the Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones, police previously said. A basketball that he always carried with him was found near the scene of the crime.
Police said the death could be attributed to two gangs fighting and retaliating against one another for months.
An autopsy report showed that bullets hit the boy’s thumb and hand and grazed his back. During a Friday bond hearing, the judge yelled and berated Morgan, calling him a predator and a danger to the community.
“There is nothing this court can do”.
Authorities now say detectives have made an arrest in what they called an “unspeakable murder”.
“All I can say is that with every thing going on in Chicago to say that people are not interested in what’s going on is false”, Adam said.
“He’s definitely underground, he knows we’re looking for him, everybody knows we’re looking for him”, McCarthy said.
McCarthy has called Tyshawn’s slaying “probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime” he has seen in 35 years in law enforcement. Tyshawn Lee was failed on many, many levels.
“They’re going to be obliterated”, he added. The second suspect is believed to be in the area, McCarthy said.
“This was very clearly not a case of no snitching, but there was a lot of fear, which is completely understandable”, the superintendent said. “He’s a convicted felon and gang member”. Two weeks later, Morgan was arrested again and charged with a weapons violation apparently unrelated to Tyshawn’s killing.
Police have rearrested Corey Morgan, a man who was initially named as a person of interest.
Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told reporters on Friday: “It was an act of barbarism”.
