Oregon State’s Ryan Nall torches Oregon on 66-yard TD
Oregon State did not win a conference game for the first time since 1997.
The Beavers scored 2 touchdowns to draw close, but Royce Freeman scored just before the end of the 3rd quarter to give the Ducks a 38-21 lead.
The play was unorthodox, featuring multiple players in positions different that the ones they started with in training camp. The Ducks took their first lead at 14-7 when running back Taj Griffin scored on a 14-yard touchdown run with 54 seconds left in the first half. Oregon State is having a tough season with a 2-9 record, with the Beavers having lost eight games in a row, but now they look for the upset. Andersen said last week said Collins would sit the rest of the season, but the true freshman quarterback returned to practice this week – at receiver. For the season, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound redshirt junior’s caught 58 passes for 775 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In the seven games he took the field at quarterback before going down, Collins had moments of excellence but ultimately did not develop as a passer.
Adams threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns as OR extended its winning streak to six games.
Opening day starting quarterback Seth Collins, who played off the bench for OSU on Friday after missing several games, ran for two touchdowns in the third quarter.
His return in a hybrid role of runner, passer and receiver served as a catalyst to Oregon State’s highest scoring output of the season. Addison’s third touchdown made it 45-35, which OSU quickly answered on Ryan Nall’s 66-yard touchdown run through a UO defense playing without leading tackle Joe Walker, who was not in uniform. It was a little chippy at first and then after that we just played ball and as an offense we just wanted to finish better than what we did.
One of those players was Nall, who broke out for a career-high 174 rushing yards on 19 carries.
In the fourth quarter, OR quarterback Vernon Adams tosses a touchdown pass to put the Ducks up 10. Addison caught all three passing TDs, and had 106 receiving yards.
