MLB Investigating Yasiel Puig Under New Domestic Violence Policy
The league’s plan for action was prompted by a report on TMZ that detailed how Puig shoved his sister and sparked a “massive brawl” at a Miami bar Wednesday night.
The Dodgers and Puig’s agent both declined comment to the Times.
According to TMZ Sports, Puig and his sister were drinking together at a bar in Miami before getting “into a heated argument…and things escalated when he pushed her”.
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig sustained a swollen eye and facial bruises during a fight with a bouncer.
A representative for the Miami Police Department says that Puig suffered a swollen left eye and facial lacerations in the incident, after he was asked to leave the club by security.
Moss said the bouncer claimed Puig sucker-punched him; Puig said the bouncer got too aggressive.
Puig would be the second player investigated under MLB’s new and open-ended domestic violence policy. Neither the bouncer nor Puig wished to press charges.
Once the investigation is complete, the commissioner decides “on appropriate discipline, with no minimum or maximum penalty under the policy”. The league also is investigating Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes under the policy after he was charged with domestic abuse in an incident involving his wife.
Since, Puig has hit just 27 total home runs and was limited to 79 games played this past season due to injury. He pleaded not guilty.
