Colorado Springs Shooting: Planned Parenthood Shooter Kills At Least 2
Police Lt. Catherine Buckley said officers were deployed Friday and the situation has not been stabilized. The name of the suspect was not released.
At least four officers have been injured, she said.
As of 5:21 p.m. EST, per the Associated Press, police have still not been able to detain the suspect and reportedly “encountered gunfire” in their pursuit of the CSPP shooter.
Several more people were injured, with the total now at 11, sources familiar with the incident told NBC News.
Joan Motolinia said his sister, Jennifer, was trapped inside the clinic and hiding behind a table from someone shooting inside the building when she called him.
7 p.m.: Officials confirm one police officer from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs force and two civilians were killed. CNN reports that there are civilian injuries as well and that police “are only aware of a single shooter”.
The condition of any of the people transported to the hospital was not immediately known.
Numbers have been changing as more information comes out but police are now reporting that there are at least nine victims in the shooting. The hours-long standoff started at the Planned Parenthood clinic, according to police.
The shots fired by the man all occurred at the Planned Parenthood building, police said, although it was not clear if his motive was related to the organization. She was unable to confirm the suspect’s identity or whether he’d been injured.
At a grocery store in the shopping center, an intercom announcement told shoppers not to leave.
“It’s not usually a busy day for us, and no one is panicking or anything, ” Pelosi said. ‘I heard some shots so people were in there shooting for sure’.
“At this time, our concern is for the safety of our patients, staff and law enforcement”, Vicki Cowart, president of Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountains, said. “Whatever, we got to stop this guy”.
