Brigitte Wolfe, who said she works in the area of shooting, told CNN that she saw about five officers behind a building with their guns drawn, as well as about three SWAT vehicles and roughly seven police cars from her vantage point in a strip mall that’s across the street from the Planned Parenthood.

It remains clear whether anyone was killed in the shootings.

A number of people were evacuated during the standoff – some wrapped in blankets in the blowing snow – to a nearby Veterans Administration clinic. She says at least four police officers have been wounded and there may be a fifth.

Police are exchanging shot with a gunman inside the facility, Buckley said. “She was calm she was trying to hide from those people”, he said.

White House officials said that President Obama has been notified about the situation in Colorado by his Homeland Security advisor and will be updated as needed.

Planned Parenthood released a statement that said it did not know the full circumstances or motives behind the attack, or whether the organization was the target.

Earlier, a law enforcement source told KKTV that one of the officers had been hit in the hand.

Buckley said the incident began when police got a call at 11:38 a.m. that a gunman had entered the building.

Police previously said the gunman had been contained Friday but later said they were still searching for the person.

Mayor John Suthers paid tribute to police for getting the gunman into custody without further bloodshed at the Planned Parenthood building, where people scrambled into a safe room in a desperate bid to save themselves.

She said the attacker was armed with a “long weapon” with a shoulder stock such as a rifle, and some witnesses reported hearing automatic fire.
