Philadelphia 76ers Defeated by Boston Celtics
76ers’ top pick Jahlil Okafor got into a fight with a heckler after the team suffered its 16th straight loss.
Boston Police are investigating after the 7-foot-tall National Basketball Association player was accused of repeatedly punching a man and shoving him down outside the Storyville Night club on Exeter Street at about 2 a.m. Friday.
In ESPN’s report, 76ers head coach Brett Brown said he has been part of streaks before and is “numb to it”, while second-year forward Nerlens Noel stated it is hard, knowing that they were close to the win.
The 76ers lost to the Celtics, 84-80 on Wednesday night (Thursday in Australia) as the hapless Philadelphia squad once again collapsed in the end game.
In an email to The Philadelphia Inquirer, a Sixers spokesman said, “We are aware of the report, and we are now working to gather additional information”.
The frustration for the Sixers reached a boiling point later that evening when Jahlil Okafor tussled with a man who the rookie center says was heckling him over the team’s losing (see story).
The Philadelphia 76ers are a pitiful 0-16 to start the 2015-2016 regular season and the stress of failure has apparently gotten to their promising rookie, Jahil Okafor. Along with the tough start, the 76ers now may be without their first-round pick from April if the league decides to suspend Okafor for the incident.
Kenneally said the participants were gone by the time officers arrived and nobody was arrested or charged.
Okafor allegedly punched someone but that wasn’t recorded. “You’ll never win a game.’ I was around the corner when it happened”, the source said. “I saw him a minute after he knocked the dude out”.
Despite his team’s struggles, the big man from Duke has posted good numbers, posting per game averages of 18.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. When it’s all said and done though, Okafor will face a suspension and hopefully will learn from this incident. “I think that was just the result of them thinking they are just drafting the best player that was left on the board”, Okafor said when asked about the team’s drafting process.
Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas led all scorers with 30 points and added six assists and four rebounds.
