Man Charged With Murder Of 9-Year-Old Tyshawn Lee
Police said three men were involved in the killing of Tyshawn, including a man who is already in custody on unrelated charges.
McCarthy said Morgan is a documented gang member and convicted felon. “This was very clearly not a case of “no-snitching” but there was a lot of fear”.
Police said Lee had been playing basketball in a park when gang members approached him, engaged in conversation, and walked Lee into an alley, where he was shot.
FOX 32 News learned Morgan was re-arrested early Friday morning and charged with firs degree murder. He was arrested on an unrelated gun charge and was released on bail earlier this week.
Nearly immediately, though, Chicago police began to suspect that the boy was not just a bystander caught up in an argument but was targeted for death because his father was a gang member.
Chief Medical Examiner Stephen J. Cina, who performed the autopsy, found evidence of gunpowder burns on the side of Tyshawn’s face, an indication that the gunman fired one shot at close range, he wrote. He also expressed frustration with police, saying investigators seemed more interested in him than in finding who shot Tyshawn.
However McCarthy insists the shooting was indeed gang related. The other suspect, Kevin Edwards, is still at large and police are hunting for this man today.

“If you have a monster who’s willing to assassinate a nine-year-old, what is that person likely to do if they know somebody is cooperating with the case?”
“That gang just signed its own death warrant”, he said.
Last week, Morgan, 27, was arrested on gun charges and considered a person of interest in the shooting. “We’re going to destroy this gang”.
Police said they led to the suspects through forensic evidence, witness identification and an outpouring of tips.
“All I can say is that with every thing going on in Chicago to say that people are not interested in what’s going on is false”, Adam said.
McCarthy expressed confidence that the unnamed man in custody won’t be released anytime soon and that authorities will find Edwards, whom they’ve been hunting for weeks.
