Amazon reportedly adding other streaming services to Prime Video
Amazon is reportedly planning to add more content to its Prime video offering by incorporating other online movie and TV channels into the service. The new feature could go live as soon as next month. The company has also plans to manage customer relationships for its partners and may also permit viewers to log-in directly into other streaming subscription services using Amazon’s credentials.
One thing’s for sure: while Amazon’s target is Netflix, it’s great as consumers to have such fierce competition.
So what’s in it for these other, seemingly rival services?
An Amazon rep declined to comment on both Bloomberg and Variety’s reports.
The firm’s financial arrangements with its different partners vary widely.
Instead, the company may be looking to bundle existing as well as emerging standalone subscription products like the ones launched by HBO and Showtime as well as online-only subscription services, and offer them to Prime subscribers on an a la carte basis or through small bundles.
The accord gives the world’s largest online retailer a new way to expand the Amazon Prime product, which costs $99 a year in the US JetBlue gets another digital offering for its free broadband service separate from its signature seat-back display screens. Amazon will develop landing pages for the networks similar to what we see in services like iTunes, and allow Prime subscribers to add them in addition to their standard Prime subscriptions.
With Fire TV already featuring services not of Amazon’s making, an expansion into cross-brand entertainment could firm up its foundations in the streaming slug-fest.
Amazon is moving Prime Instant Video towards a more cable TV-like service, Bloomberg reports.
It’s unclear when Amazon’s updates to Prime Instant Video will roll-out as the deals with content providers are still being negotiated, according to Bloomberg. Based on reports, Amazon is still in talks with media companies regarding the mentioned service, which would obviously appeal to customers and drive them to avail the Fire TV.
