Putin: No apology from Turkey yet
“For us, Turkey was not just a neighbour, but a friendly state, nearly an ally”, he said.
Turkey’s president says he has tried talking to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, but had no response.
24, 2015 frame grab from video by Haberturk TV, shows a Russian warplane on fire before crashing on a hill as seen from Hatay province, Turkey.
The spat between the two countries has intensified since the downing of the plane.
In separate comments made at the Kremlin on Thursday, Putin said that Russian Federation had not received an apology from Turkey or any offers of compensation.
Although Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan continues to refuse to apologise for the downing of the jet, he struck a more measured tone yesterday when he suggested his forces may “have warned it differently” had they known the plane was Russian.
Turkish officials said the jet ignored repeated warnings and crossed into its airspace from Syria, where Putin’s planes are bombing enemies of Syrian strongman Bashar Assad.
It was reported earlier on Friday that Russian military deployed both the S-400 air defense systems and the Moskva missile cruiser to Syria, while local media in Turkey said the country’s air force “suspended flights over Syria as part of the global coalition fighting Islamic State”.
In a further development, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow would suspend the visa-free regime with Turkey from the New Year.
They will include “restrictions and bans on Turkish economic structures operating in Russian territory, restrictions and bans on deliveries of products, including foodstuffs”, as well as on labor and services.
Turkey claims the Sukhoi Su-24 was warned numerous times before being shot down by two of its F16 jets for violating Turkish airspace.
Russian authorities have dismissed claims warnings were issued before Turkish F-16s targeted the aircraft as “rubbish”.
“I would like to meet him face to face in Paris”, the Turkish President said.
Russia’s agriculture ministry has already increased checks on food and agriculture imports from Turkey, in one of the first public moves to curb trade.
