State Sen. Shirley Turner urges shoppers to participate in ‘Small Business
While Black Friday wraps up, our local stores are gearing up for Small Business Saturday tomorrow.
“Today, they might be out shopping Black Friday deals in the malls, but tomorrow is very specifically created to find those small niche markets”, business owner Karen Allegretti said.
Within both local towns and in the county, there are restaurants, retail businesses, sales and fix appliance locations, hardware stores, drug stores, florist and gift shops, and many other locations.
State Sen. Shirley Turner (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) is encouraging shoppers to participate in “Small Business Saturday” this weekend.
People who shop at small businesses on Saturday, Nov. 28 are encouraged to post on social media using #ShopSmall to promote their favorite small businesses.
According to American Express, about $14.3 billion dollars was spend on small businesses in 2014, which is a 15 percent increase from the year before. So, don’t forget to get out there and support our local small businesses tomorrow and throughout the holiday season.
Many mom-and-pops are rolling out the red carpet for customers and offering big discounts on specialty, locally made or one-of-a-kind goods.
Small Business Saturday is a way to help the stores that give back to the community.
Many customers said they don’t mind paying slightly more to support an independent business.

Clothes, shoes, accessories and strollers are among the many things you can buy at a decent price while contributing to your community. But this year’s sixth annual Small Business Saturday will be missing one key factor: incentives for American Express credit card holders, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.
