Hundreds of Wilmington Shops to Participate in Small Business Saturday
Make the season of local retailers MERRY by thinking small and shopping BIG.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and our state will not thrive without their success”, Turner said.
American Express also offered free signage, shipping, advertisements, and more for small businesses to use in promotion of Small Business Saturday.
While officials say small shops give to the community, shop owners say the community gives back to the local shops. “Supporting Small Business Saturday by shopping at a unique local retailer thanks them their commitment”.
In 2010, American Express launched Small Business Saturday to encourage shoppers to support small businesses and help the local economy flow. Most participating businesses will display “Shop Small” materials in their storefront or online.
For those gearing up for Black Friday and Cyber Monday there is another shopping day you should add to the list. Last year, it is estimated that over $14 billion was spent at small, independent businesses on SBS!
“This is their favorite time of the year, our time to shine and to help people make their house into a home”, Nold said.
“It’s kind of amusing you see that they’re bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars in a matter of a day or two, and I’m thinking, why isn’t this money hitting our stores?” asked Damien Killen, owner of Killen’s Enterprises.
