Baylor and TCU deadlocked at the half
Josh Carraway was part of the hungry TCU pass-rush that caused Chris Johnson a ton of problems in the rain on Friday night and also returned a Johnson fumble 55 yards for a touchdown.
After going a combined two for 15 on third downs in the first half, both offenses will hope to get back on track. The Frogs would respond on the ensuing drive however when TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, who missed last week’s game against Oklahoma with an ankle injury, found Jarrison Stewart for a 25 yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7. The Bears have to win their last two games, and No. 5 Oklahoma has to lose Saturday at No. 9 Oklahoma State, where Baylor won last week. Baylor is the only team in the nation to score on its first drive in every game this season – and all of those have been touchdowns.
Torrential downpour and less than ideal field conditions made for a sloppy first half that featured five turnovers (Baylor – 3, TCU – 2).
“The thing that makes it the worst is not being able to accomplish one of our goals”, Baylor All-America senior left tackle Spencer Drango said. In the second overtime, TCU’s offensive line had little trouble holding off Baylor’s three-man rush while Boykin found KaVonte Turpin for an eight-yard touchdown pass in the end zone.
Both punters get a star because they saw more action than anyone else in this game. It would have been close, but there was never a measurement because Briles called for a timeout before the snap. “It could have gone either way at the end”. After one first down, Baylor elected to let the game go to overtime. This latest game could potentially have playoff implications for the Bears, should several other teams lose over the course of the next few days.
According to Fox Sports in a November 26 report, the Bears will start third-string quarterback Chris Johnson tonight and with a win, they continue their quest for a third-straight conference title.
“It’s frustrating. It’s the end of the year, and you’ve got two good football teams that you want everyone to see the best of everything”, Patterson said.
Baylor was at the TCU 19 early in the fourth quarter when Carraway leaped into the air and then swiped at the quarterback’s arm to knock the ball loose. After a lightning delay pushed back the kickoff, the weather let up a bit and there were touchdowns on the first three drives of the game. “Today was a survival game”.
