76ers’ Rookie Jahlil Okafor Involved In Boston Street Fight
Pompey’s report surfaced after TMZ released a video showing Okafor involved in an altercation outside of a Boston bar Thursday morning following the 76ers’ loss to the Celtics. Things escalated and a man identified as Okafor in the video appears to knock out one of the hecklers.
ESPN quoted a source close to Okafor as saying, “Apparently, (the hecklers) said: ‘The 76ers suck and you guys are all losers”. “I was around the corner when it happened”. “There is a process going on and I’m not allowed to talk about it. I’m sorry”.
After the incident in a Boston night club, Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jahlil Okafor is quick to realize his mistake and immediately apologized for his actions.
“We are aware that there is an ongoing investigation regarding the alleged incident and are unable to comment further”.
Okafor, 19, who was the Sixers’ top pick (third overall) in June’s NBA Draft out of Duke, is part of a Philadelphia team that has lost its first 16 games of the season.
The Sixers are 0-16 this season and have lost 26 straight games dating to last season.
Okafor said he reacted to heckling about the 0-17 Sixers, the only team in the National Basketball Association without a win.
The Philadelphia 76ers and Okafor took on the Boston Celtics Wednesday night, another game that resulted in a loss for the Sixers. The one bright spot you could point to has been rookie Jahlil Okafor, as he has come into the league and played well from the start.
Everybody fled the scene immediately and no arrests were made, but the fact that this whole incident was caught on camera is not a good look for Okafor. I feel like we’re going to get it done. Whenever a situation like this occurs, it just leaves a disgusting feeling in my stomach (and I’m sure the same can be said for others who follow the NBA).
Philadelphia 76ers center Jahlil Okafor told reporters Friday he is “embarrassed” about his involvement in a Boston street fight Wednesday night.
The Sixers will be playing the Rockets on Friday and this unfortunate incident shrouds the already misfiring team. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
