Fury: If I lose to Klitschko I’m a fraud
“I thought I’d seen it all, but I was wrong”, he says of his opponent. But I have not met a man as tall as me, who is as quick as me, ever.
And in under a week from their scheduled bout, Klitschko and Fury locked horns in a fairly intense press conference. He said he was aiming for “a spectacular finish”.
The 27-year-old labelled Klitschko a “plastic German” as the Ukranian, who was born in Kazakhstan, has built his pro career in Germany.
Considering he’s pushing 40, Klitschko could be right in that his body might betray him and cause him to lose. “I’m the trojan horse, most definitely”. Chins don’t get any better.
How to get flat belly in just 9 days. “The difference between me and the previous challengers Klitschko (64-3-0, 53 KOs) has beaten in a row is that none of them were like me”.
“What would be better than a spectacular finish?” There is controversy if it is on points sometimes, the wrong judgement, another direction, maybe rematch. “But a win is a win”. “It is immaturity”, added the champion.
Originally the fight was scheduled for late October, but the 39-year-old Klitschko suffered a calf injury during training and the meeting was pushed back.
“I’m coming very fast for you, Wlad”. It’s a controlled ego, it’s big and that’s probably the core of my motivation.
“But fear is also healthy because fear makes you alert, aware, punctual”. You can’t make out you’re a traveller just like you can’t make out that you are black.
For all of Fury’s antics – the outbursts and the publicity stunts – his love and respect for boxing can not be questioned. Klitschko used to have a reputation of having a glass jaw, but his undefeated streak as the heavyweight champion since 2006 has erased most of those doubts. “No man is unbeatable”.
“He’s captured the wider public interest and I do think he is under Klitschko’s skin”.
“Sorry to be so real, but let’s not dress this up – he (Klitschko) is mutton dressed as lamb”. “It’s my life and it’s what I am and even if I had £10 million, I could still sleep in a caravan”.
“I embrace the fight, I want the fight, it’s exciting”, said 23-year-old Carroll.
“I’ve met him a few times, like when after I boxed Martin Ward”. And I’ll be the first person to say that.
One needs to have a honest belief in Tyson Fury’s abilities to pick him as an upset victor. Even if I beat Wlad in one second, is it going to get any bigger than this? I don’t think running away is the answer. “I have a plan”. He doesn’t recover when he’s hit.
“If I get the win there is a guaranteed song”.
Shown on Sky Sports Box Office, the event will be a pay-per-view fight, meaning you won’t be able to watch it without heading to a licensed pub or bar. However, fans and viewers could wait a little longer while the announcements and national anthems for each fighters’ country are played.
Peter Fury, the Briton’s trainer, believes his nephew has the necessary tools. “He’s getting knocked out for sure”.
Thompson’s wily perseverance and Pulev’s own formidable size and aggression allowed them to actually get past that jab, those grabs and constant weaves and land some serious punches. But he thinks Klitschko’s time as champ could come to an end this weekend. Then when the champion attempts to grab, Fury will try to rough him up.
