Two Suspects Having Links To Attack Arrested
The suspects’ identity and alleged role in last Friday’s attack at the Radisson Blu hotel was not immediately known, the BBC reported.
The two attackers have not yet been identified.
The gunmen were killed at the scene and on Monday state media broadcast their photographs, asking anyone with information about them to come forward.
Malian troops, backed by French and American special forces, retook the building and freed the terrified guests and hotel staff during a siege that lasted more than seven hours.
Two people suspected of having links to a siege at a luxury hotel in Mali’s capital Bamako earlier this month have been arrested, the country’s security ministry has said. A source close to the investigation stated that the suspects have already been brought in for interrogation, based on the data found in one of the attacker’s phones.
Combination photo provided by Mali’s intelligence agency shows two suspects of the attack on a hotel in Bamako on November 20. Islamist group al-Murabitoun claimed responsibility, but the authorities have not established that. The attack was also claimed, however, by the Macina Liberation Front, a group active in central Mali, in cooperation with Ansar Dine militants. The attackers were reportedly shouting Islamic slogans.
Reuters said that the US Embassy in Bamako has already warned of the possibility of “further terrorist activity in the capital” and citizens have been advised to avoid public places like bars, restaurants, and shopping centers.
