Grant Shapps Believed To Have Resigned Over Bullying Claims
Mr Johnson’s father, Ray, says had Lord Feldman and then Conservative co-chairman Grant Shapps – now global development minister – acted over complaints his son would still be alive.
Claims have engulfed the Tories following the apparent suicide in September of activist Elliott Johnson.
Mr Clarke has since been expelled from the party for life amid claims he tried to blackmail and smear rivals.
The BBC reported this afternoon that Mr Shapps had quit as the row continues to play out in the media.
During the Commonwealth summit on Malta, PM David Cameron sparked rumors of Mr Shapp’s resignation by claiming there would be a “proper investigation” into the bullying allegations in the Conservative youth wing.
He added: “It is a tragic loss of a talented young life”.
“I feel deeply for his parents, It is an appalling loss to suffer and that is why it is so important there is a proper coroner’s inquiry”.
He ran the Road Trip youth campaign during this year’s election but it was beset with allegations he harassed and sexually abused young female activists, took drugs and blackmailed MPs – all of which he strenuously denies.
Downing Street said the prime minister was awaiting the results of an internal investigation but Mr Johnson’s father has called for an independent and external inquiry.
“Mr Clarke.’ She said she never received a ‘satisfactory response” to her complaint.
Reminding Mr. Clarke that he hadn’t single handedly won the election for the Conservatives with his leadership of the Roadtrip campaign, Mr. Abbott wrote: “I did have to do quite a lot of “corralling” as well, even if you don’t remember it now!”
Mr Johnson, whose son was found dead on railway tracks in September and is thought to have left a note condemning Mr Clarke, told the newspaper: “They need to stand down”.
Her revelation is the latest claim that the Tory Party ignored complaints of bullying by senior activist Mr Clarke for a year before he was kicked out of the Conservatives.
Shapps has reportedly resigned after a new claim emerged that he failed to act on complaints about Tatler Tory Mark Clarke. Feldman, Shapps and whoever else is involved in this; clearly these senior members of the party have been telling lies. “You wonder about the people running the country whether they’re fit to govern”, Johnson told the Guardian.
A Tory spokesman said: ‘An investigation is now under way and it is not appropriate to comment until we can establish the facts’.
