Check Out a Bunch of Clips from Sylvester Stallone’s Creed
Rocky is persuaded to train Adonis, and the film takes on a familiar formula. Creed isn’t a paint-by-numbers boxing flick regurgitating the winning element of the past Rocky films, but a movie dedicated on building its own legacy unique from those that came before it. The hero of this movie isn’t Rocky but Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis.
Seeing much of Apollo in Adonis, Rocky agrees to mentor him and thus Adonis’s eye of the tiger is put to the test!
The Italian Stallion rebounds enough to defeat Clubber convincingly later in the same film. Right, now name five actors who have played supposedly world-beating boxers in boxing movies. It’s also one of the best movies of the year so far, masterfully done by filmmaker Ryan Coogler. It doesn’t get any more basic than this bloody brawl.
STALLONE: (As Rocky Balboa) Time beat him. It culminates with this street fight between teacher to student … and let’s just say, the teacher didn’t teach his pupil all of his tricks. Expressive, memorable and engaging, he delivers a sound performance that more than makes up for his last film (Fantastic Four). Creed may have a few flaws, but, not unlike that boxer who kicked this off all those years ago, it’s got more heart than you could even imagine. You get so enthralled, in fact that you’ll have a hard time from clapping and cheering at moments. Stallone’s Rocky performance, which now has him as a trainer, could catch the attention of Oscar voters.
In May 1982, Mr. T was a bonafide Hollywood attraction – not to mention, a true American bad ass in every sense of the phrase. Likewise, people from within the city recognise Rocky and treat him as a living legend.
STALLONE: (As Rocky Balboa) Your father was special. When Rocky gave his famous speeches the music would immediately hit, and it was just as good as Bill Conti’s renditions in the earlier Rocky films. This wasn’t actually in the original script and was a suggestion from Sylvester Stallone.
Now that your Hunger Games hangover has finally subsided it’s time to figure out what movies you should check out this holiday weekend. Who said pro wrestling is fake?
What really made Creed an outstanding film was all the homages to previous Rocky films. A rigorous training amid the cold winter snow in Russian Federation led to Rock knocking out Drago, who was juicing on steroids.
In theory, “Creed” isn’t even about Rocky. Rocky Balboa, the most recent of the films, is not on Netflix, although that’s not too big of a problem considering it’s not that great of a movie anyway. That’s because after all those championship fights, it’s easy to believe that this series had fought its final round. This is most overtly reflected in the fights.
When Los Angeles transplant Creed (Jordan) has his first cheesesteak with love interest Bianca (Thompson), she asks for “some peppers on that jawn”.
Watch and make Creed a memorable watch. Rocky wins the title back. Yes, it adds some depth to these characters, but it also turns them into one of the sorriest bunch characters who ever ended up crossing paths.
