House Democratic leader Pelosi says will convince colleagues to support Iran
“Even after this deal, our policy toward the arrogant USA will not change”, he said. “Makes it much more hard for us to walk away if Iran somehow thinks that a nuclear deal is dependent in some fashion on the nuclear“, explained the president.
Iran has always denied seeking a nuclear weapon, insisting its atomic program is for peaceful energy and medical purposes only.
“The Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, a bill which 98 Senators and 400 Representatives supported and you signed, established a 60-day period for Congress to consider the nuclear agreement“.
Netanyahu has been at the forefront of global opposition to the nuclear deal and has openly clashed with the Obama administration and other global powers that negotiated the deal, which lifts sanctions in return for greater restrictions on its nuclear programme.
And there’s a permanent prohibition on Iran ever having a nuclear weapon, the US President said.
She said Iran was seriously determined to further expand ties with regional states and its neighbors, some of which include Sunni Muslim Gulf Arab states who accuse Shi’ite power Tehran of interfering in the Arab world.
ABOARD A U.S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT – The historic accord reached with Iran this week will lessen the chances of an armed confrontation with Tehran over its nuclear program but it is too early to tell what impact the agreement will have on Iran’s “malign” behavior in the Middle East, the top US military officer said.
Responding to the criticism coming from political opponents and also from Israel, Obama said for all the objections of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or, for that matter, some of the Republican leadership that has already spoken, none of them have presented a better alternative.
“Because the stakes are so high, this is not the time for politics”, President Barack Obama said in an address from the White House on Tuesday, also urging a focus on what’s critical.
As Iran’s supreme leader, Khamenei has the final word on all policy matters, foreign and domestic, including on the nuclear deal.
He said the United Nations vote will have no impact on sanctions imposed by Congress or the president and argued the worldwide body is showing “significant deference” to Congress by postponing implementation of the order for 90 days.
“You might hear from critics that Iran could just ignore what’s required and do whatever they want”.
“Last week, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said under no circumstances should there be any relief for Iran in terms of ballistic missiles or conventional weapons”.
Khamenei, who often appeared to resist the concessions demanded during negotiations on the accord and expressed distrust that the U.S.in particular would live up to the agreement, acknowledged that he had approved pursuing the deal.
