USC basketball team off to a 4-0 start
Grady, after losing the ball, appeared to run into Alabama’s Dazon Ingram with 3:07 remaining in the game. “He had a tough fall during the game, I’m not exactly sure what happened, I haven’t seen the replay”. He was taken off the floor on a stretcher and didn’t appear to be moving. Gregg Marshall said in a radio interview after the game, that Grady said he wasn’t able to move but was able to talk and feel things.
A Wichita State spokesman told NBCSports.com that Grady was taken to a local trauma center for evaluation and that he is “awake, alert and is answering questions appropriately”. The school said he was alert and responsive during the trip to the hospital. It looked as if his head struck the other player’s upper body.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with him”, Alabama guard Riley Norris said. The Tide hired former National Basketball Association coach and player Avery Johnson. “And I was just very proud of the competitive spirit, not getting down on themselves to withstand runs from a Top 20 team in the country”.
“We talked a little bit about that before the game”, Johnson said. USC made 52.2 percent of its three-pointers (12-for-23) and 45.5 percent overall from the floor (25-for-55). Why Wichita State Will Win The Shockers do a really good job of making the most of their possessions.
USC responded and went up 61-54 with 7 minutes left on 3-pointers by Boatwright and Elijah Stewart.
“Seeing your brother on the court like that, obviously it’s more than the game at that point”, WSU senior Ron Baker said. Jarrod Uthoff led the Hawkeyes with 20 points.
Trevon Bluiett led Xavier (6-0) with 16 points and Edmond Sumner added 13.
USC led for the majority of the game and also took a 30-29 lead into halftime. The officiating was pretty bad this game, but it heavily favored Alabama, who was allowed to shoot more free throws than they probably should have been. The triple was part of an 8-0 run that eventually made it a 15-point game.
The Musketeers, 6-0 for the first time since 2011, weathered USC’s second-half comeback bid and clinched a place in the tournament championship. It is the best start for the Trojans since winning their first eight games in the 2000-01 season. Missouri State is 33-1 in home openers since joining Division I for the 1982-83 season, and has won 13 straight. The Tide used free throws to close the gap, with nine of its last 11 points coming at the line.
The Bears shot 40.8 percent from the field (29 of 71) and converted just 4 of 20 attempts from beyond the arc. Emily Potter scored 15 points for the Utes (3-1).
