Florida Police Are Investigating Disturbing Photo of Dog With Muzzle Taped
South Daytona Animal Control is investigating a picture posted on Facebook of a dog’s mouth taped shut.
Police with South Daytona posted on the City’s Facebook page notifying residents that they were aware of the photo and there was an active animal cruelty investigation. She lists she lives in South Daytona on her page.
The picture has been shared more than 179,000 times since then, and the response has been negative.
According to the City of South Daytona’s Facebook page, “Update on the disturbing animal Facebook posting”.
WESH-TV reported that the photo, posted online by a Katie Brown, has sparked hundreds of phone calls and emails to law enforcement officials nationwide.
Police are investigating a Facebook photo showing a dog with its muzzle taped shut after a high-volume of calls were received. “Again, thank you for the outpouring of concern and sharing of information”. “We will follow up when she returns”, he said.
Later, she made a separate post that said, “Don’t panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasn’t barked since…”
Unfortunately, it looks like Katie is not likely to be prosecuted, after authorities determined that Brown was out of state for the holiday weekend. Whatever people think about Florida, we take our animals, and those who abuse them, very, very seriously.
The city also confirmed that, although she might not be able to be prosecuted, Katie might still be in hot water after putting duct tape on her dog.
It’s unclear whether any animal cruelty charges will be filed. The Lieutenant reports that the owner has two dogs in her possession.
