Local businesses offering holiday shopping deals
Dawn Starns, the state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, says they partnered with American Express and their survey found a large majority of shoppers plan to participate in Small Business Saturday.
Abernathy’s in downtown Davenport draws in good business because of what they feel is a strong connection to their customers, something Clark says the bigger stores just don’t have.
“And I really feel like there is, in South Dakota and Sioux Falls, specifically, a big shop local movement and people do care”, says Nancy Savage, owner of Child’s Play. “So that’s why they deserve our support and our loyalty”, U.S. Small Business Administration Director Tom Todt said. “A really busy time of year for us”. “This year, Amex is not offering a statement credit offer for card members on Small Business Saturday, but is increasing the support and resources it provides to help small business owners market their business within their communities”. “Shop small. You’re supporting friends, family, neighbors, your community”, Batcheller said. Local shops typically invest far more into their community by using local vendors, employing local people and keeping their profits close to home instead of shipping them to an out-of-town headquarters.

Both of these small business owners have deals planned for Saturday to get people in the doors.

Owner Lauren Baker said shops are working together to bring more shoppers, not only to their own stores, but the whole area. Saturday marks another shopping day of the holiday season.
