Clint Eastwood is Hollywood most overrated director
The American movie icon, Clint Eastwood is back on the news after his latest movie “Jersey Boys”.
The recipient of five Oscars along with the prestigious Legion d’ Honneur of France and mayor of Carmel, California is touted as one of the greatest director not only in Hollywood but also in the Diaspora of movie business. However, his latest flick “Jersey Boys” has raised some questions about his greatness as a director.
According to many film critics “Jersey Boys” is mediocre in every sense. These critics further added that he is the most overrated director in the Hollywood in today’s time.
Although the movie made some progress at the Broadway musicals because of the songs of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons but some of the crucial aspects of cinema was lacked in his latest directorial project. Aspects that are important to retain the audience were missing vociferously in the movie such as thrill of the music, cinematic nuances etc. And, the result is quite understandable; the movie not only performed badly in the box office, also this slapdash slog failed to connect with its audience not a single moment in the movie.
There is no doubt about that this rock biopic is not even close to the “walk the Line” as a content wise. Although, “Mystic River” and “Million Dollar Baby” both are highly praised work of art but the current Hollywood is completely ignoring his old school type of movie making as most of the Hollywood is obsessed with comic-books adaptations. Many critics think that the basic requirement of a great director is to make great movies. However, in Eastwood’s case the number is very much minimal. Apart from the above two only Unforgiven can fit into the shoe of a great movie. Famous film critic Charles Taylor described his movie solemn, inflated and dull.
