Luis Enrique: Messi, Suarez and Neymar only happy when they all score
“I’m not anxious at all, obviously we don’t like to lose in this fashion, but tonight’s defeat has nothing to do with the game against Bayern Munich previous year”.
Last season, the trio hit a Spanish record 122 goals as Barca won the treble and now they have 125 – and counting – this calendar year after a double from Neymar and a goal each from Suarez and Messi against Sociedad. A stylish manoeuvre from Messi played Alves in down the right-hand side, with Neymar racing in behind his marker to turn his compatriot’s low cross into the near top corner.
Given the thrashings of Madrid and Roma and the fact they have Messi back, Barca – now top of La Liga table by four points – could hardly be looking more formidable as they prepare to face a Real Sociedad outfit hovering just above the relegation zone.
One of the keys to Barca’s success was the “very good atmosphere” among the players, Messi said. “We are talking about extending the contract, because that is what I want to do”.
Luis Enrique believes Barcelona are playing the best football of his reign after Saturday’s 4-0 win against Real Sociedad.
Messi, making his first return since injury, also notched up two goals.
After previously scoring against him while he was in goal for Arsenal, the pair combined – along with Neymar – to inspire Barcelona to a 6-1 win over his Roma side.
“Once the match is resolved, [the “MSN”] all try to score”.
Messi completed the scoring in the first minute of injury time when he tapped in at the far post following another outstanding piece of skill by Neymar.
“Everyone will drop points between now and the end of the season”.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Barca boss Luis Enrique was quick to praise his team and its rich vein of form.
They did not disappoint, taking the lead midway through the first half through Neymar.
“I feel good, very happy for all we are doing”, Neymar said.
Barcelona discovered they had qualified from Group E before they had kicked a ball at the Camp Nou, the 1-1 draw between BATE Borisov and Bayer Leverkusen in Belarus ensuring their passage.
“We still have areas to improve in”.
“When you see the players enjoy themselves in every phase of the game you have to be satisfied”. “We are in a sweet moment and hope to keep it going as long as possible”, he said.
