Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat denies he has made show more misogynist
However, he did say that he feels he and the show were the wrong target for critics, saying: “Maybe this is my dimwittery but I do not understand why Doctor Who of all shows is singled out as misogynist”. “A new companion gives us the chance to relaunch the show, and we’ve got a really cool new idea about how to do that”.
Controversy has arisen over the graphic nature of Jenna Coleman’s recent departure from Doctor Who, as her character Clara Oswald was killed off in a scene which Jenna herself admits she was shocked by.
He told the latest issue of Radio Times: “We have an emotionally engaged hero and those women he knows are not like James Bond girls”. However, Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat has confirmed “You’ll see Clara in some form again, this is not the end of Clara in the series”.
Moffat on the point of seeing better female role models on screen: “The general point being made by these people is correct”. River Song could return to the series, they are after all married and it was announced that she will reappear in the Christmas special episode of Doctor Who. We need better female role models on screen.
“Everything is hard in Doctor Who, including leaving”, Moffat said.
The iconic sci-fi drama is now onto its ninth series since being revived by the BBC in 2005.
