Baylor entered on a 12-game winning streak versus teams from the state of Texas…. That was the only loss by the Horned Frogs, who shared the Big 12 title with Baylor before the league’s two private schools were the first teams left out of the inaugural College Football Playoff.

The Horned Frogs won their 13th consecutive home game, all since losing to Baylor two years ago.

So in a odd way, beating Baylor make this season even more successful than 2014 when TCU was ranked No. 3 in the second-to-last week but inexplicably dropped to No. 6 by the selection committee after blowing out Iowa State.

“At the end of the day, turnovers were the telling tale of the game”, Baylor coach Art Briles said.

Because of a lightning delay, the game started 50 minutes late. “They can keep whining because were just going to go out there and show them that we are the better team, ” Boxton said this week. “Not to discredit it. I don’t want to be the guy that’s new to it that says it’s not”. But it didn’t seem to faze the Bears, who drove 61 yards in 11 plays and converted twice on fourth down. Both teams traded touchdowns in the first frame, and TCU scored quickly to make it 28-21.

Ninth-ranked Oklahoma State (10-1, 7-1, No. 11 CFP) has an outside chance of getting into the playoff.

Boykin played for the first time since turning his right ankle awkwardly in the first half of TCU’s last home game, November 14 against Kansas.

After a heroic effort in last week’s 45-35 road win at Oklahoma State, sophomore quarterback Chris Johnson struggled in his first career start, completing just 7-of-24 passes for 62 yards, fumbling twice and throwing a pick.

But in so many ways, TCU’s 10-2 record was as impressive and as satisfying as any season in Patterson’s tenure, which is saying something given that the Horned Frogs have finished in the top-10 five times in the last decade and went unbeaten in 2010.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Friday that quarterback Baker Mayfield is expected to play after sustaining a concussion last week against TCU. The Horned Frogs came into the game averaging 363.5 yards per game, fifth in the country, while the Bears were 14th at 350.7.

“I consider that one of the plays of the game”, Briles said. “They played a heck of a game”.

Plus, TCU gets the ball after the half with it now tied, and it’s probably only a matter of time until Boykin hits one of those long jump balls again.

Baylor benefited from pass-interference and roughing-the-passer calls to extend the drive, which running back Devin Chafin capped with a 1-yard touchdown run. Then came Friday in the cold and the wind and the rain with Boykin nowhere near 100% and TCU winning despite a mere 148 passing yards. The rain turned the highly anticipated Revivalry into a battle of field position as TCU had 10 straight punts to end regulation, and Baylor had 17 straight scoreless possessions after opening the game with back-to-back touchdown drives. But if it is, oh well, we’ll just go out and play.
