Suspect Identified in New Orleans Playground Shooting
Police have named a 32-year-old man as a suspect after 17 people were wounded in a shooting at a park in New Orleans this week.
Several hundred people were gathered at the playground for a block party when witnesses say at least two groups of individuals began shooting at each other.
The suspect’s prior rap sheet includes everything from home invasion to carjacking to drug possession, the paper reported.
“We are working quickly and aggressively to track down everyone involved in this senseless shooting”, said NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison.
Police have said the shooting appeared to be gang-related.
Police have said children were among the victims, including a 10-year-old boy.
Even though the park was crowded, police said they still hadn’t received any videos of the shoot-out. Fifth District officers, who were already on their way to the playground to break up the crowd after learning of the event, arrived immediately after the shooting occurred.
The police believe several other suspects were involved in the shooting and are asking people to come forward with any information they might have.
“We need videos. We need photos”.
The mayor was confident that there would be more suspects to be identified.
Landrieu said this is only the first shoe to drop in the case.
