Swashbuckling Liverpool embarrass woeful Manchester City
Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, left runs back to his side after scoring his teams first goal during the English Premier League soccer match between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, England, Saturday, November 21, 2015.
Jurgen Klopp has said that Liverpool’s 4-1 demolition of title-chasing Manchester City at Eastlands on Saturday represented a “big step” for his troops.
He said: “I am more than angry, it is hard to understand why we played so poorly”. “They are pretty good”.
“For us it is important we can see and feel there is a development in our game”.
“We don’t know about (the fitness of) Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Wilfried Bony and so on”. We tried to have as many players on the pitch who have trained with us. “We had chances to get more but Joe Hart made a few top saves”.
Skrtel fired home a powerful fourth from just inside the box and City’s day was summed up when Raheem Sterling – facing his former employers – failed to make contact with the goal at his mercy as Liverpool moved up to ninth.
Milner was proud of the way his side performed against his former club, but says this is just the beginning under Jurgen Klopp. I was not happy with eleven players, not just Yaya. “It will be friendly, shake hands, then it’s football”.
“I will not explain the starting eleven”, Pellegrini said. “They were brilliant goals”, Klopp added, evidently purring at how intricate interplay led to collector’s items from his brilliant Brazilians Coutinho and Firmino.
Vincent Kompany might be occasionally accident-prone but he is still the best organiser City have defensively and, with their captain absent again because of recurring injury issues, it must have been startling for Pellegrini to see how vulnerable his team were.
“I think Klopp has the typical Germany mentality, which I am used to as I played for four years in Germany”, he explained. “I am really satisfied with these players”.
The Reds first choice strikers Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge were not in the playing XI and the German manager started summer signing Roberto Firmino as the main striker.
Hart also had to save from Dejan Lovren, before a calamitous back-pass from old boy James Milner nearly let City back into the game, only for Mignolet to deny Aguero from Sterling’s lay-off.
