LSU’s Miles on job status: ‘Going to go on to work’
From 1962 to 2000, LSU won 10 games in a season just twice and averaged seven wins a year; Miles has won 10 games seven times and so far has never won fewer than eight games in a year. History means nothing. If LSU has a losing season the AD will most likely fire Miles, and that’s a shame.
Many feel that Miles is on the hot seat more than any college football coach in the country. There’s the ugliness of a prolonged drip-drip-drip of leaks about a coach who won LSU a national title in 2007 and played for another in 2011. The Going Back To The Well Option Is ……
For some reason, Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher has become one of the hot names associated with the potential LSU opening.
Fisher is considered LSU’s top target if Miles is let go, according to The Times-Picayune. Miles addressed players about his job in their weekly team meeting in the LSU football operations building. The way it has happened the last three weeks, everybody’s overreacting in the sense of talking about what needs to happen and the things we can do to fix it. A lot of people on the outside saying that type of stuff. If LSU came calling, would Smart really turn down this sort of opportunity?
“Our best way to defend our coach is with our play and eliminating the mistakes we had this past game and the week before that”, sophomore wide receiver Malachi Dupre said.
His signature hat, his unconventional play calls and his idiosyncratic personality keep Saturdays interesting.
Without a doubt, Jimbo Fisher is a very interesting option considering the success he’s had at Florida State (both on the field and in recruiting) and his ties to the LSU program. The Roll The Dice On Greatness Option Is …… Before arriving in Tallahassee to be a part of Bowden’s staff in 2007, Fisher served the same role from 20900 through 2006 at LSU as a member of Nick Saban’s coaching staff in Baton Rouge.
“If we were competing for a national championship this year, well then we wouldn’t be having this conversation, ” the source told ESPN. Smart is expected to be the Next Great Coach, but so was Will Muschamp.
“I’m going to go on to work…at some point in time there’s a me in this, not while I’m coaching”. Even with Philly’s problems against Jameis and the Buccaneers on Sunday, it’s still deep in the hunt for a playoff spot in the miserable NFC East – the timing isn’t right.
LSU just might get a special halftime show this season after all. In his brief conference, Miles pointed out a couple of instances in which reporters had also been incorrect about his job status, most recently about rumors that Miles might leave LSU to coach MI before Jim Harbaugh took the job. He’s a blue-chip coach with a demonstrable penchant for finding blue-chip players and convincing them to play for him.
