Fury in row over ring canvas for Klitschko fight
“I worked for six months for this in the gym, it’s a dream come true”, Fury said in a ringside interview after the fight. This is Tyson’s first fight at world level and, although I’m sure it will be exciting while it lasts, it’s going to be hard for him when last time out he was fighting the Dereck Chisoras of this world’.
The challenger took the three titles on offer, with two judges calling it 115-112 and the remaining official scoring it 116-111.
Fury now holds the WBO, IBF, WBU and IBO world boxing titles even though the fight was less a spectacle than many expected.
“The boxing associations are on the spot, so I am assuming this is all hot air”, Klitschko’s manager Bernd Boente told SID, an AFP subsidiary. My own family know the real me, but apart from that no one knows the real me because I can wear a million faces. Whatever happens next is a blessing.
After Fury had problems with ill-fitting gloves in the week leading up to the fight, there was plenty of tension in the build-up on Saturday.
The loss is Klitschko’s first since being knocked out by Lamon Brewster in April 2004.
“The speed was missing, for a big man he is incredibly agile”. His range played a major role. “I tried but it didn’t work”, said Klitschko, who at 1.98-meters (6-foot-6), was in the unusual position of facing someone taller.
‘The question is though who has Fury beaten who is world class? Local boxing promoter Jeffries said: “I disagree completely”.
Klitschko looks to defend his WBA Super, IBF and WBO crowns against towering British fighter Fury. Klitschko landed a ferocious right hand again but Fury shook it off well as the fight finally caught fire.
“I always said what I would do and I delivered”.
“Thanks very much and happy Christmas”. “It was all fun and games in the buildup”.
The fight, postponed once due to a Klitschko injury, nearly did not take place with Fury’s team complaining earlier on Saturday over the thick ring canvas that they claimed limited his movement.
Fury dictated the pace from the start meanwhile Klitschko lacked in ideas to threat the agile 27-year-old contender from Manchester in any way. That spat was resolved when he agreed to re-wrap.
