Eagles coach Chip Kelly stands by defensive coordinator
That job is with the, who hired Kelly in 2013.
The Lions (4-7) have won three straight this season and three in a row in their annual Thanksgiving game. There’s an opening at USC, and that would allow Kelly to go back to his beloved Pac-12, where he can show off his genius once again.
“We all take accountability”, coach Chip Kelly said.
Here are three arguments for and against Kelly moving on.
Kelly is still a hot commodity in the college ranks. Over the last three weeks, the Eagles have managed to lose to a franchise that fired its coach in midseason and another, the Lions, that fired its GM, team president, offensive coordinator and two line coaches a month ago.
Nick Saban bolted the after two seasons to take his current job at Alabama.
They cheered one last time. It has been a tough year and it is questionable if Chip Kelly will be able weather the storm of failure and fan criticism.
A strip-sack by Ezekiel Ansah on third down, just 27 seconds after the Eagles took possession, set up a short field for another TD pass to Johnson. He is not starting in Buffalo.
Clearly, none of those moves worked.
These Birds certainly looked like turkeys on Thanksgiving Day at Detroit. Kelly is not about to wait around for that to happen.
Having the coach, still new to the National Football League, also be the GM was a awful idea? He monitors his players’ sleep. Granted, Jackson has been injured for much of 2015, but he and Maclin marked a deep threat that has not been replaced by Kelly.
Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson combined for one of the best games of their careers, helping the surging Detroit Lions keep the Philadelphia Eagles reeling.
While it did not affect the outcome, the Eagles scored with 3:02 left to play as Sanchez threw to Jordan Matthews for a 24-yard score.
So, to be clear, Kelly’s sticking it out for the rest of the season and next year too?
After a 1-7 start to the season, the Lions made a decision to clean house, with bosses reportedly walking through the building deciding who was staying and who was going. The Eagles were missing two of the top offensive weapons, along with QB Sam Bradford. Johnson didn’t catch his first pass until there was less than seven minutes remaining in the first half.
But the theme that has accompanied Mark Sanchez’s most recent ascent to the starter’s role has been the sudden abandonment of his defense. But when Glover Quin went down with an ankle injury early in Thursdays game, Ihedigbo came back in and played solid alongside Abdul-Quddus.
In Watkins, the Eagles have a player who is familiar with their defensive scheme. Meanwhile, he parted ways with Jackson, McCoy, and other talented players.
Reason No. 3: Lurie doesn’t want to become that kind of owner.
So when Peters is struggling, you know things are bad.
Lurie gave Ray Rhodes four years.
And there were some pretty bad losses in there, particularly in Andy Reid’s final two seasons. A quick hook for Kelly doesn’t seem like something Lurie would – or should – do. The NFL is driven by great quarterbacking. One week I’m getting rolled up on, the next week I’m getting kicked in the quad.
Before getting hurt, Romo didn’t look anything like the only quarterback to beat multiple teams with records of 9-0 or better.
Unfortunately, there’s more than enough evidence out there now to definitively say his approach will ultimately fail if used at all times. These are just a few questions that the coach must ask himself moving forward.
