No. 20 Wichita State loses in opening round of AdvoCare Invitational
It was first time Alabama (3-2) beat a Top 25 team on a neutral court since November 29, 2009, a 68-66 victory over then-No.
Late in the 2nd half against Alabama, Wichita State senior forward Anton Grady was taken off the floor by stretcher after colliding with another player and collapsing onto the floor.
Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall told reporters Grady was talking and alert, but had not moved since the incident. “I thought we had a chance again, a lead midway through the second half and didn’t finish”.
Grady was involved in a collision in the closing minutes of the Shockers’ Friday afternoon game in the AdvoCare Invitational.
(AP) – A scary injury overshadowed a second consecutive loss for No. 20 Wichita State.
Grady is Wichita State’s second leading scorer with 9.0 points per game, leaving the Shockers with a struggling young group.
BENNY BUCKETS – Freshman Bennie Boatwright scored a season-best 22 points vs. Wichita State on November 26, including making 5 of 9 three-point attempts. Baker leads the team with 20.3 points per game on 45.2 percent shooting, and he’s only turned the ball over four times so far. They came in averaging 92.5 points, 10th nationally, and as Enfield said, 72 points against Wichita State “is like 92 against most teams”.
After the Trojans had their lead cut to one, Boatwright’s 3 from the corner gave USC a 64-60 advantage with 4 1⁄2 minutes left. They tied Wichita State on the boards, and they reversed several Shockers runs that gave them second-half leads.
Ron Baker had to carry most of the load for the Wichita State offense and his 25-point performance was nearly enough in the first round of the AdvoCare Invitational at Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Like Hale, Norris hit 2-4 three pointers and and was flawless of his free throws, and added a rebound, a steal, and an assist. Sophomore Trevon Bluiett leads the way with 14.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest for balanced Xavier, which already owns victories over Missouri and MI. Trevor Cooney added 15 points and also made the all-tournament team. The Shockers are giving up just 64.7 points per game. “They put their players on the perimeter except for maybe one kid … so a shot goes up we have numbers advantage inside”.
The Crimson Tide made 8 of 9 free throws over the final 3 minutes of the half.
By playing fast, smart and unselfish, the USC basketball team is off to its best start in 15 seasons.
Alabama: Will play the victor of No. 17 Notre Dame-Iowa in Sunday’s fifth-place game. In WSU’s first three games, he missed all five of his shots and scored five points at the foul line. The tiny point guard was 0-7 on three point shots, and only 1-3 on the rest of his shots.
