Adele No.1 Album in NZ
Eminem might have slagged them off, but the turn of the century was the reign of the boy bands and Backstreet Boys’ Black and Blue sold 1.591,000 in its first week – and broke the global sales record selling more than 5 million worldwide.
“You know, I listen to music as a fan, for the outlet of my emotions and stuff like that”, she said.
Adele has announced her first tour since 2011, with a string of European dates in support of her record-breaking new album, “25”.
The full video on her Facebook page, made up of blunders and swearing, shows the singer standing in front of a map, pointing to countries such as the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Norway and France with a wand, joking: “Oh my God, it’s hard work being Harry Potter”.
“I miss the air, I miss my friends / I miss my mother / I miss it when life was a party to be thrown / But that was a million years ago”.
Adele’s net worth is believed to have topped net worths of her closest music rivals.
Oasis’s Be Here Now previously held the record for biggest first-week sales, after shifting 696,000 copies in 1997.
Adele’s third studio album, 25, has become the fastest-selling number one of all time, with industry experts suggesting that it may go on to become the biggest selling record in British history.
Within just a week of its release, 25 has already broken multiple records, both overseas and here on home soil. Adele’s 25 has sold 800,307.
Its digital success has been tempered by the artist’s refusal to allow her album to be streamed via services such as Spotify, for which data was added to the chart in February. When asked about the possibility of streaming, she replied “Yeah, probably”.
Adele – 25 is on United Kingdom independent label XL Recordings, part of the Beggars Group, and proudly represented and distributed in New Zealand by NZ owned independent companies The Label and Rhythmethod.
Meanwhile, many Adele fans are flocking to music stores to buy the British singer’s latest album.
“You’re gonna wish you never had met me”, she sings in the background of “Deep”, turning her heartbreak into one of the iconic songs of the decade behind a foot-stomping, neo-soul groove.
