TCU’s Josh Carraway returns Baylor fumble 55 yards for the score

There are two ways of looking at this play from Friday night’s Big 12 showdown between the Baylor Bears and the TCU Horned Frogs.

Trevone Boykin’s 8-yard pass to KaVontae Turpin gave the Horned Frogs a 28-21 lead to open the second overtime possession.

Baylor entered the game with the No. 1 offense in the nation at 644.1 yards per game, while TCU’s offense ranked third at 588.2.

So even if the game might not have the sizzle we expected, Baylor and TCU will always be entertaining. “We brought one of the corners off the edge and he got a hold of his legs”. “I guess practice is overrated”.

Neither did the TCU offense. Boykin missed TCU’s game against Oklahoma last weekend with an ankle injury, but was able to start, albeit with his ankle heavily taped.

“Having a 10-win season is awesome”, Boykin said.

It happened at about 6:12, less than 20 minutes before the scheduled 6:30 start.

“Crazy, man. A 12-round fight really, to be honest”, Boykin said. We just kept fighting, this team is something special. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. “We knew the whole game we just had to fight through the weather and the distractions and all the adversity and just play football”.

They won’t be writing songs or making videos out of that first half, I can assure you. After coming out of the gate throwing dimes on TCU’s first drive, Boykin has showed that he’s clearly not 100%, particularly running the ball, and if that aspect of his game isn’t there, he’s not the same guy. He went 7-of-24 for 62 yards, a touchdown, and a pick, and his first completion after halftime was the touchdown pass in overtime.

It had been raining since Thursday, and rained throughout the game with several heavy downpours.

However, Baylor didn’t score again in the first half and committed three turnovers before the break. Josh Carraway returned a fumble 56 yards for a touchdown for the Horned Frogs (10-2, 7-2).

The normally prolific offense were mired in a stalemate for the rest of the first half after Carraway’s touchdown and went to the break with the score 14-14. Robert Merrill had 1,107 yards in 2003. The Bears still outgained the Horned Frogs by 40 yards. For the moneyline, bettors will find TCU is a +105 home underdog, while Baylor is a -125 favorite to win. Their first game was a scoreless tie in 1899….

TCU head coach Gary Patterson has had some great defenses within this program in the not-so-distant past.

A one-point loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman two weeks later solidified the fact that TCU would not be playing for a national championship this season. Oregon State did not win a conference game for the first time since 1997. “The playbook was open, and we were dialing up the same things we were with Seth and Jarrett, because he’s good and he can deliver”, coach Art Briles said at a press conference of Johnson, who passed for 138 yards and two touchdowns against Oklahoma State.
