Local businesses want you to shop small on Saturday
Local business owners on 4th Avenue said the shop local movement has grown over the past several years. An estimated $14.3 billion was spent at small independent businesses on Small Business Saturday.
Local Scottsbluff business owner, Tom Perkins, owns W.O.W. Meow Inc.in downtown Scottsbluff.
Natalie along with many other small business owners across Madison are gearing up for Shop Small Saturday encouraging all shoppers to get out and support local businesses right in their community. “The Gables is all about a sense of community and small businesses”, said the owner of Wolfe’s Wine Shop.
Deb Strain says, “I think that small businesses have more unique items for friends and family”. “Not only are you helping create a good sense of place by shopping locally, but the small businesses the local businesses down here are your local community members”.
“So we’re actually just paying homage to the businesses that really, really make up the economy of the DE state”, Banks says. “They offer special savings, and gift wrapping and things like that you don’t get in those bigger stores”, said Shopper Brittony Landis.
“There’s definitely been a shift towards choosing how you want to spend your dollars, and a lot of that is turning into supporting local and small businesses”.
Small Business Saturday has been around since 2010 when American Express founded it to help local businesses attract more customers.
Holiday shopping season is in full swing. Local store owner, Mary Snow appreciates the sale day. “But in addition, it’s also an opportunity for us to say thank you”.
“You get to see where your money goes”.
