One dead in Saturday morning shooting on Bourbon Street
A man was shot and killed on Bourbon Street during one of New Orleans’ major tourism weekends.
“There was about five shots, and the whole area about two seconds later, just cleared out”, a Bourbon Street employee explained.
Detectives say gunshots were reported at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Bourbon Street.
“Based on the video, the victim was in a fistfight with a group outside of the Prohibition Bar”, said Harrison.
One person is seen punching the victim and another person is seen taking out a gun and shooting the victim multiple times, the NOPD said.
Spokesman Garry Flot says investigators are trying to learn what touched off the fight.
Harrison said that the victim is a New Orleans resident and that the shooting is not related to the Bayou Classic in any way.
“We just wanted to go see if a friend was working at the club next door and go say hello”, the friend said.
Chantelle Paul says, “I’m not planning on being out here when it gets dark”.
NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said that police are out in full force this weekend.
In fact, the police department is fully staffed this holiday weekend.
There were also state troopers and sheriff’s deputies on patrol Saturday morning.
The friend said he waited by the victim’s side calling for help until police arrived about two minutes later.
