Rams Wide Receiver Stedman Bailey Reportedly Shot In The Head
Despite being shot twice, Bailey reportedly does not have life-threatening injury.
Bailey was in intensive care and in stable condition at a Miami area hospital after undergoing a surgical procedure that Rams coach Jeff Fisher said lasted 4-6 hours.
Bailey was in surgery for his injuries, according to the Miami Gardens Police Department, which is investigating the Tuesday night shooting. “When we get more information, it’ll be publicly disclosed through the organization”. The vehicle’s driver was also shot multiple times while attempting to shield children inside the auto from the spray of gunfire.
There was blood on the sidewalk outside a home along the 19800 block of Northwest 38th Place in Miami Gardens. I don’t have specifics right now, but what I can tell you is that he’s in stable condition.
“He understands that this is his last go-around”, Fisher said.
“Once I pulled up and saw all these shell casings, I thought that can’t be too good”, said a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified. Police are looking for a light-colored, four-door vehicle, possibly a Buick Regal.
He attended high school at Carol City in Miramar, Fla., not far from Miami Gardens. The three others, including two minors, were not injured.
Bailey and his cousin were taken to the hospital, where both of them had surgery.
Before being drafted in the third round by Rams in 2013, Bailey enjoyed a record-setting junior season in 2012 at West Virginia where he set a record with 1,622 receiving yards and 25 TDs. During his time as a Mountaineer, Bailey amassed 210 receptions for 3,218 yards along with 41 touchdowns.
Football players across the country offered support and prayers for Bailey’s recovery. He was also suspended for four games in 2014 for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs (that suspension was later reduced to two games).
The Rams signed free agent wide receiver Wes Welker after Bailey’s second suspension. He’s eligible to return to the Rams’ active roster on December 7, one day after the team plays the Arizona Cardinals.
