Warriors outshine suns in 17th win
“Yeah I think it would be great”, quipped an excited Cabalquinto, who recently was among an elite group of Filipino-American executives invited to the White House representing the Bay Area, particularly the Golden State Warriors, to celebrate Filipino-American History Month for the first time.
The champions extended their record-setting start with a 135-116 rout over the Phoenix Suns on Friday, while the Houston Rockets edged the winless Philadephia 76ers 116-114.
The NBA season is heading towards December and the Golden State Warriors remain undefeated and they are the best team in the league.
Valdehueza added that it would be a lot crazier if there is a Filipino-American player among the Warriors lineup just like n 1978 when the team drafted Raymond Townsend from UCLA Bruins where presently Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Tower of Power University of the Philippines Maroons alumnus Benjie Paras’s son Kobe Paras is playing. Other teams just aren’t supposed to top that figure by 12. Their next 5 games include: Phoenix, Sacramento, Utah, Charlotte and Toronto (4 games on the road).
If it’s fool’s gold though, what glitters still has to make other teams shiver with woe. They all featured either Michael Jordan or Wilt Chamberlain.
They could also target the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ 72 wins.
Forward Draymond Green finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his second triple-double of the season, and guard Klay Thompson had 15 points for the Warriors in the win. Curry has had two 40-point games over the last five and he is shooting at a high rate with a 51 percent shooting percentage overall and he is connecting on 43 percent of his threes.
The Warriors cooled down in the third, only scoring 28 points to the Suns’ 24. The Suns had a great night beyond the arc, draining 10 3-pointers on 26 attempts. This season, Steph Curry has already made 87 three-pointers in just 17 games. At this point in the third quarter, down 11, the Suns had a legitimate opportunity to get back in the game and take control.
Curry, though, still is leaving his possibilities open – just a bit.
Stephen Curry is on pace for 420 treys this year. To put that in context: The current record for most assists in a season is 1,164 by John Stockton in 1990-91. Their 22 in the game was one short of the league record. The only thing the Suns did wrong was not take advantage of a couple of opportunities earlier in the game and got baited into attacking mismatches when the Warriors switched everything. He has not played in the fourth quarter in any of those three contests. Longley who Scored on average 2 more points with some of the best Complete players and bench players on his team paired with the best player of all time on his team. Curry nailed five 3-pointers.
The game was a blowout from the start. Curry’s nine 3s matched the most by a player against Phoenix.
From Walton’s perspective, however, it’s been the ability to make sure basketball is still fun that has helped this team be successful – a definite carryover from how the Warriors have always played under Kerr.
