Volunteers prep for Thanksgiving at Salvation Army
For some, there is a basic struggle to get food on the table, much less presents under the Christmas tree, if there is one.
This Thanksgiving, while many are celebrating with an abundance of food, there is a large number of people anxious about how they will a provide a meal for their family. “It doesn’t happen without them and it doesn’t happen without the generation of this great community”, said Rosen.
At the Salvation Army in Shreveport, volunteers and staff fed around 1,500 people on Thursday.
Last year, the campaign raised $29,113.10 that served 200 families with different expenses like rent and utility assistance.
Volunteers worked for days ahead of the meal to prepare. During the holiday season the non-profit organization will also be collecting toys for the island’s children. “It’s an awesome reaction that you get from the ones who come in here and eat are also the ones that will come back tomorrow and say, hey do you need help with something”, said Redmond.
Captain Roseno says they do not want this year to be the year they don’t have every angel adopted.
A home cooked meal of turkey, green beans, and rolls, served hot to men, women and children.
The thief told the bell ringers that he was there to pick up the kettles early because of the cold weather.
“We love God. We love people, and we love serving the world”.
