Shoppers go local for Small Business Saturday
Some sellers say they have a hard time filling out their profiles, but it clearly can be a big selling point to reach shoppers who want to feel a connection to the artisan or dealer with whom they’re interacting. He opened his interior design store early again this year for “Shop Small” day.
“The local retailers are the ones that are paying taxes into the community, they are employing people in the community, and also they are just the ones who are invested in the community”, says Melissa Warnke of the Alabama Retailers Association.
With so many people taking advantage of deals at big box stores this Black Friday, what about shopping local?
Nationally, shoppers spent nearly $14B at locally owned businesses on Small Business Saturday, which is an almost 2% increase from the previous year.
“We need to show them that we support them, and potentially that could lead to another small business coming downtown and wanting to start up because they know our organization is here to support them”, said Wendy Shriver, Downtown PKB Executive Director. This weekend, I encourage all Arizonans to get out and celebrate “Small Business Saturday”.
“I think it’s really important and I’m glad to see that we’re promoting more small business, because I think that’s really important in our community”, Lindemann said. You’re likely to find something that fits your needs from smaller vendors with a more carefully selected inventory.
“Remember: the more dollars we give to locally-owned businesses, the more dollars we keep in Arizona”.
Some people will be offered $10 off a Small Business of their choosing, but others are out of luck (like me).

By the next year, officials including governors, mayors, senators and President Barack Obama voiced their support for the day, according to the Small Business Saturday website. Nationally 8 million consumers shopped on Small Business Saturday last year, up 15 percent from the year before.
