Donald Trump Mocks Reporter With A Disability — And The Journalist Responds
On Tuesday, Donald Trump began receiving some harsh criticism after video of him mocking disabled journalist Serge Kovalevski surfaced on the internet.
Trump: Well I think if I will oftentimes, and I don’t call it a lie, I call it a fib, if somebody is not looking good, I never would say that.
“Serge Kovaleski must think a lot of himself if he thinks I remember him from decades ago – if I ever met him at all, which I doubt I did”.
Trump demanded an apology as well from the employer of the reporter the New York Times, which earlier this week issued its own statement that condemned Trump’s ridiculing of the appearance of one of their reporters.
“Now, the poor guy”, Trump said of Kovaleski, “you’ve got to see this guy”.
Now, Trump has tried to explain via Twitter he “didn’t know” that the reporter suffered from the condition, and was therefore not impersonating him.
The Republican primary front-runner cited an article written by Kovaleski for the Washington Post in 2001 that appeared to corroborate his claim that Muslims in New Jersey were “dancing in the streets” after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
Following the attacks, Trump told an NBC News reporter that he would support requiring all Muslims within the United States to be registered to a special database, which his critics have likened to the mandatory registration of Jews in Nazi Germany.
Here’s a link to the article Kovaleski wrote for the Washington Post on September 18, 2001.
Trump, for his part, insists that he was merely acting out the part of a flustered reporter. “Maybe that’s what I said'”.
The reporter Donald Trump claims he’s never seen before says he spent a whole day with the bombastic billionaire while working for the Daily News – and he’s drawn Trump’s ire before. “In other words you say the other, you’re in trouble”, Trump said. Kovaleski recently said that his reporting never bore out that thousands, or even hundreds, were celebrating. “I don’t remember.’ He’s going like, ‘Uhhh I don’t remember'”.
Judge for yourself. Here’s the portion of Trump’s speech where he references Serge Kovaleski.
Trump unveiled his horrifying impression of Kovaleski on Tuesday during a rally in SC, while he desperately struggled to keep his much-debunked NJ 9/11 cheering story alive. The lack of movement, unlike many other diseases, however, does not get worse as time goes by.
Trump fired back on social media, denying he had made fun of Kovaleski’s disability or would even recognise him.
Moreover, Trump claims to have “one of the all-time great memories”.
Donald Trump, leading Republican candidate for president, took his spat with the New York Times to the next level, doubling down on his denial of mocking a handicapped reporter and then demanding the newspaper apologize for accusing him of doing so.
The Ruderman Family Foundation said it’s willing to offer Trump a series of sensitivity training sessions.
