By The Numbers: Steph Curry and Golden State’s Incredible Streak
Golden State’s recent win against the hapless Lakers gave them a 16-0 record, the greatest start in National Basketball Association history.
“We talk about 33”, Curry said in a conference call, via Diamond Leung of the San Jose Mercury News. “We love the feeling of winning. That’s the only thing that motivates us”. With Curry continuing to look like the league’s best shooter with averages of 32.6 points, 6.1 assists and 5.2 rebounds this year, it’s apparent that the Warriors have no plans of taking their feet off the gas as they continue to take the league by storm. Curry scored 41 points and a season-high nine three-pointers as the Warriors defeated the Suns 135-116.
“They shoot threes like layups”, Suns forward Markieff Morris said. It makes sense. The Warriors hit some 3s they won’t usually hit. Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight combined for 28 points. But that’s the type of game it turned into. “But we still want to get over 300 passes for a game”. “We didn’t do that”. Instead, the Warriors got two wide open layups and some more Steph, which was more on the Suns than it was Curry being magnificent.
“I’m definitely excited to be part of the Olympic team”, Curry said.
“Our NBA season is pretty long and hopefully we are in the finals and celebrating another championship then have three weeks to refresh and get ready for Rio”.
Covington buried the first of three consecutive Sixers threes before forward Jerami Grant (18 points) carried the torch with two free throws that tied the score at 93 with 9min 32sec left.
Golden State outscored Sacramento by 11 in the quarter to take a 92-71 lead into the fourth quarter, which consisted of a lengthy amount of garbage time.
The Phoenix Suns didn’t do themselves any favors when they went 0-3 in three winnable games and that became even more apparent in their loss to the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors led 44-27 after their highest-scoring first quarter since March 25, 2011.
What began as a Sacramento takeover quickly transformed into the Warriors’ triumph, after the squad recovered from trailing by as many as eight points in the first quarter.
The Warriors would need to continue their streak through Game 21, on December 5 at Toronto, to take official possession of the record.
In the first quarter, starting center Tyson Chandler left with a hamstring strain.
“In past situations this year, we didn’t handle those situations well”, Rockets coach J.B. Bickerstaff said.
Curry wasn’t the only player in the Golden State uniform to enjoy a successful night of play though, as Draymond Green and Leandro Barbosa also notched big games. Lopez punished the Cavs’ interior defense and the Nets got whatever they wanted early, leading by as many as 12 in the first half while the Cavs struggled to find their legs.
