Twitter Reacts To Tyson Fury Winning The World Heavyweight Title
Tyson Fury admits that he was elated to prove his doubters wrong to become world heavyweight champion by beating Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf.
The 26 year-old from Great Britain followed an nearly floorless gameplan, probably the only one that could beat Klitschko, to take the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO away from the Ukrainian after a decade of domination.
Fury brings back the title to a Briton last held in 2011 by London boxer David Haye who lost his WBA heavyweight title to Klitschko on points. Forget about a rematch unless Klitschko is willing to fight like a 29 year-old Wlad. “It’s a Jerry Maguire moment for me and Mick Hennessy – everyone wrote us off but we’ve done it”. The frustrated champion followed Fury around the ring, never managing to establish his own lead hand in the fashion that he normally does and, thus, he was unable to bring his famed right-hand into play.
An emotional Fury said: “I hope to have many more of these victories in the future”.
“I knew I was behind and had to land the punches. I think he knew too”.
“That day was tonight for Wladimir Klitschko”.
“I got news that my wife is pregnant yesterday, we had been trying for two years, so this is the icing on the cake”.
Fury cut Klitschko early and rocked him late.
Klitschko vs Fury was a boring encounter, indeed. “I waited in line and earned the right to fight”.
Fury said: “People can say what they like about me, that I’m clumsy and awkward but now Ii am the heavyweight champion of the world. I didn’t have this confidence for nothing”, beamed Fury, 27, after his unanimous points win ended Klitschko’s run of 19 consecutive defences.
Wilder tweeted overnight: “I see you @Tyson_Fury…” There were light exchanges in the eighth round but heavy shots were traded in the ninth round with Klitschko landing a solid shot.
The Ukrainian landed a thudding one-two in the 11th as opinion among observers differed as to whom was winning. This was Fury’s 25th professional victory and he will cash in on the victory, regardless of his fight purse, having bet £200,000 ($300,630) on himself. Fury was hurt by another, however, but held on for the final bell. “I tried but it did not work”.
