Pandora Has Something That Spotify And Apple Music Don’t
In more technical terms, the band’s “No Strings Attached” album sold 2,416,000 copies back in 2000, which was (and remained) the most sales any single album made during its debut week…until now.
Many people hoping to weep along to 25 today were disappointed when the album failed to materialise on Spotify, and took to Twitter to complain.
As previously reported, Adele had already become the fastest-selling female solo artist earlier this week, a title previously held by Susan Boyle after I Dreamed A Dream shifted 412,000 in its first week in 2009.
On Adele’s third album 25, which came out last Friday, the singer has little interest in gloating about fame or experimenting in style, instead returning to the emotional depths that have so resonated with her vast fan base. Adele’s new record is the first album to sell more than 100,000 downloads in a week, shifting a quarter of a million digital copies in the first seven days of sale, overtaking the previous record of 96,000, set by Ed Sheeran.
Since Spotify still aims to secure Adele’s new album for its streaming service in the subsequent future, it is essential that other streaming giants like Apple Music reconsider the artist’s keen focus on selling hard copies of her album. Her 2010 release 21 was a breakthrough album and earned her a raft of music awards and millions of fans but 25 has depth and feeling and the kind of musical instinct about tone and tenor that very few can match.
Additionally, “25” is now the most downloaded Number One album of all time in the United Kingdom after being downloaded 252,423 times this week. It sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. Prior to 1991, there was no authoritative music sales tracking service in the U.S.
“I feel like my life is flashing by / And all I can do is watch and cry”, she sings to a delicate, Spanish-tinged guitar on “Million Years Ago”. It’s on Pandora because Adele and her label don’t have a say. “I think the lack of streaming is irrelevant”, Mr Talbot said. “So, probably (the album will be released for streaming)”.
“Deep” reads as a “hell hath no fury” statement to an ex. Listeners got satisfaction from feeling Adele turning her sorrow into gold, getting a sort of revenge.
