Shoppers buy local on Small Business Saturday
According to the Governor’s office, there are more than 670,00 small businesses across Virginia.
Some local businesses in the Ghent section of Norfolk were open on Black Friday and will be open on Cyber Monday.
Shoppers descended upon downtown Great Falls on Saturday to shop local for Small Business Saturday. Darcy Carter of Small Business Association told us in an interview on Local 44 News This Morning.
With dozens of small businesses here in Jackson it’s all money that ends up staying local.
Many South Florida consumers went holiday shopping in support of Small Business Saturday. The store has given away 2,000 books since August.
2015 marked the sixth year for shoppers to “shop small” as Small Business Saturday encourages people to shop locally and support community businesses.
Angie Bullington is the owner of Christmas store in Tyler.
Sora & Company co-owner Tori Dowson says store has only been open for four months but they say the community has been more than welcoming.
“We offer things that you can’t really get at the big box stores. We come early. We do those special things to let our customers know we really appreciate them”, says Hales.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake did some shopping Saturday at the Waverly Market, where there was a pop-up holiday market.
Today, they’re encouraging people to shop small, and to keep their money in the community.
“More personal, it is a personal experience for the shopper and for the gift they are getting”.
Previous year consumers spent 14.3 billion dollars at local independent businesses on Small Business Saturday, and that has a significant impact on local economies.
