LeBron James gives Brooklyn the hook, Cavaliers beat Nets 90-88
CHARLOTTE, N.C. The visiting Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Charlotte Hornets in an exciting 95-90 finale on Friday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
“Obviously, I want the ball in my hands down the stretch”, he said. “When you do those things offence will fall right in your lap and I feel like that’s what happened (Wednesday night)”. “Hopefully (on Wednesday) he takes the night off, but I’m happy for him and what he’s been able to do so far in the season”. James floated his running, baby hook with 1.9 seconds left over Johnson that forged a 90-88 victory for the Cavs.
But James’ game – like very, very few before him – doesn’t fit neatly into just one box. “I got to my spot where I wanted to”. “I work on those shots”.
“I thought that we got exhausted for obvious reason”, he said. “We need to toughen up”, Blatt said. “So, I might go to the skyhook next time”.
Asked if that’s the play he diagrammed in the huddle, Cavaliers coach David Blatt smiled and said, “Yeah, just the way I drew it up. Yep”. “Yep. Give it to No. 23”. Forward Richard Jefferson scored 13 points and JR Smith had 11.
The Cavs (12-5) trailed by as many as seven points in the fourth quarter but took the lead for good with a 14-4 run midway through the quarter.
Two free throws by Jack extended the lead to 45-36, and his three-pointer gave the Nets a six-point halftime lead.
Washington answered with a 10-2 run before Toronto scored the next seven points, with Lowry’s 3-pointer off DeRozan’s kickout making it 80-79. Struggling veteran Joe Johnson missed all five of his long-range tries in the loss to the Thunder, part of his team’s 3-of-13 effort.
But James had the same chance to say something nice about another hall-of-famer he’s about to pass – Reggie Miller, who’s just five points ahead of him for 18 place in league history in scoring – and he balked.
It was another great game for the Nets starters. They ended the first tied 25-25, and when Terrence Ross drilled a three with 8:24 to go in the second, it put Toronto up 35-25. Al Jefferson and Marvin Williams accounted for 11 and 10 points respectively. Brook Lopez is averaging 20.1 points and 8.3 rebounds while Thaddeus Young is averaging 15.5 points and 8.4 rebounds.
It’s been almost six years since LeBron James was on the losing end in a game against a team from Charlotte. According to the Canadian basketball star, the King James squad should be wary of the fouls they incur during games. “They don’t really care about that”.
During last Saturday’s game against their former Eastern Conference Finals foe in the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland continued their winning streak over Atlanta after sweeping them 4-0 during last year’s playoff series.
