Energizing the ongoing protests are a growing number of black community leaders and groups, including the City Council Black Caucus, which says it will seek a vote of no confidence against police Superintendent Garry McCarthy.
Dozens of protesters also blocked doors at Neiman Marcus, Saks and Tiffany & Co.
After nearly an hour of holding the intersection, the marchers reversed course and moved southbound, taking to the sidewalks as they barricaded entrances to stores like Victoria’s Secret, Nordstrom, the Apple Store and Disney, not allowing shoppers inside and, in some cases, not allowing shoppers out. CTU President Karen Lewis issued a statement urging members to express their “outrage and dignity” by participating in Friday’s march on Michigan Avenue on a stretch called the Magnificent Mile.
